PRESIDENTS VIEW

Following Jon Seller's visit to Salt Lake City and attendance at World Work Place last year, in January of this year I paid a visit to IFMA headquarters in Houston, Texas to attend the annual leadership conference.

The trip signified a commitment from the Hong Kong Chapter to re-engage headquarters and seek out the value they can provide to us as a Chapter. As well as bringing back a lot of ideas from the conference, which I feel can benefit the Chapter in the year ahead; I was very much energized by the visit and the people I met.

It is with this energy that I have started my term as President of the Chapter.

The Chapter's strategic and operational plan for the new term will encompass the following key aspects:

  • Developing our vision and mission statements, core values and core competencies and ensuring that this is synchronized with Head Quarters

  • Focusing the Board's direction to deliver greater value to the Members of the Chapter

  • Renewing the Chapter's commitment and dedication to quality and excellence in FM.

  • Ensuring the most effective use is made of the Chapter's resources by focusing them on key priorities.

We have set about doing this by creating a streamlined Board of eight Directors who will be tasked with ensuring the strategic goals are delivered. They will be supported in these tasks by Committees, formed by a mix of seasoned FM professionals and some of the up and coming members of the FM community.

In this regard, I would like to welcome a whole host of new faces; Tony Garland, Elton Battersby, Richard Cheng, Selinda Ngai, Barbara Young, Natina Wong, Karen Lau, Tim Loo, Samson Lee, A N Chew, Larry Lau, Bella Chan, Jarvis Wong and Colman Li.

I also warmly welcome back in to the Chapter's affairs - John Gilleard, Philip Lo, Mike Hudson and Andrew Wong.

In total, we have 25 people who have volunteered to give up valuable time to help promote FM and help deliver even greater value to the Members of the Hong Kong Chapter of IFMA.

To close, I would like to thank Jon for his efforts during the year, which I know has been especially demanding for him in running his own successful business. I would also like to thank all the past Board Directors for their efforts.

As the incoming President, I am genuinely very excited by the year ahead and the opportunity to deliver even greater value to you as members of IFMA and the Hong Kong Chapter.

Brian Crockford
President
Hong Kong Chapter of IFMA
