IFMA represents, supports and unites the largest community of facility management practitioners, consultants, educators, students, and product and service providers in the industry.

Through research efforts, educational programs and resources, professional certification, a network of chapters and councils, and global professional development events, IFMA assists corporate and organizational facility managers in developing strategies to manage human, facility and real estate resources.

Representing approximately 18,500 members, IFMA focuses its efforts on leading and sustaining the progress of the profession, while also advancing the careers of individual members.

IFMA members themselves represent more than 60 countries and a variety of specialized areas within the facility management profession. The diversity that characterizes the IFMA community enriches members' learning and networking experiences.

IFMA members have a voice in 125 chapters and 15 industry- and interest-specific councils. Chapters allow you to interact with other workplace professionals locally. Councils provide focused networking with peers in specialized areas of FM. IFMA offers and continuously develops products and services to assist the future of FM. EDUCATION

Professional Development

Through its Professional Development program, IFMA exhibits its commitment to leading and sustaining the facility management profession. The Association offers seminars covering FM core competencies, hot topics, FM fundamentals and a CFM Exam Review course.

Self Study Courses
Self-study programs are designed for convenience and self-paced learning. Workbooks and audio-tape sessions enable the busy facility professional to obtain specialized instruction from the home or office.

Certification
The certification process is designed to assess competence in the field through work experience, education and the ability to pass a comprehensive exam. Since the program began in 1992, IFMA has certified almost 3,000 individuals. Demand for this valuable designation continues to grow. The Certified Facility Manager (CFM) examination has been localized for many countries and is available in several languages.

CFM Exam Review
The definitive course of preparation for IFMA's Certified Facility Manager Exam, this review is designed to assist facility professionals seeking certification in updating and assessing knowledge and skills related to each competency, in order to successfully complete the exam and earn this prestigious designation. Recognized Programs
IFMA has developed standards to recognize quality FM first-professional degree programs at colleges and universities. The program initiative was designed to recognize and encourage the strengthening of current, valid FM education degrees and assist in the development of new FM degree programs.

Research

IFMA identifies trends, applications and procedures enabling facility professionals to anticipate future FM challenges and directions.

Best Practices
IFMA holds forums in which facility professionals can discuss best practices. These forums allow FMs to share success stories and compare their work practices against the best in the industry.

Legal and Regulatory Reporting
As part of IFMA's mission to lead and sustain facility management as a profession, the Association delivers up-to-date reports on legal and regulatory issues affecting the industry.

IFMA Membership Directory
Available only to IFMA members, this valuable resource contains the name, title, organization, address, phone number and, if available, fax number and e-mail address of every Association member. Members have the ability to update individual records. The online directory is available exclusively through IFMAnet.

Facility Management Journal
Members receive bimonthly issues of Facility Management Journal , the single best source of FM information. Published by IFMA, FMJ is written specifically for professionals who are concerned with developing and maintaining productive workplaces. Each issue provides readers with trends, cutting-edge developments and industry news, along with practical applications and solutions for a range of facility-related subjects.

IFMA News
Members receive IFMA's monthly newsletter, brimming with information on Association activities, research projects, chapter and council news, calendar of events, facility spotlight and a variety of topics currently affecting facility management.

Publications
To help FMs develop strategies for increasing effectiveness and productivity in the workplace, IFMA has gathered the most up-to-date collection of publications and reports available in the industry. In the Online Store, buyers can find resources to help them conserve energy, manage disasters, prepare for the Certified Facility Manager (CFM) exam, prevent workplace violence, promote a healthy and safe work environment and much more.

IFMA Web site
The Web site provides quick and easy access to facility-related information and services. It is the best way for the Association to distribute information on current facility management issues, as well as communicate what IFMA can do for its members.

IFMAnet
Members have exclusive access to resources and services on a members-only area of the IFMA Web site. IFMAnet features FMJ; IFMA News; IFMA's Membership Directory; and chapter and council tools.

JOBnet
JOBnet, the Association's online job referral service, helps match qualified job hunters with suitable employment opportunities. Instant access benefits both the employer and the job candidate. Job searches and resume postings are free of charge to IFMA members.

INTERACTION

Chapters

Local chapters offer membership a wealth of educational and networking opportunities. Currently there are 126 IFMA chapters and affiliated organizations worldwide. Councils
IFMA councils are special-interest groups reflecting the diverse types of facilities and job responsibilities represented by IFMA members. Organized by industry-specific or specialty-area focus groups, councils direct their own programs, which are structured to meet the needs of their membership. Leadership Development
Through conferences and seminars, IFMA provides forums for members to exchange ideas about Association-related issues and leadership ideas. Sessions provide attendees with valuable insight to use within their respective leadership roles.

IFMA's World Workplace
The single most informative FM event in the industry, IFMA's World Workplace Conference and Expo features educational programs, extensive networking opportunities and an all-encompassing exposition of products and services relevant to facility management. You won't find another industry event with the quality and scale of this educational program, making IFMA's World Workplace simply the best environment to evaluate, learn, network, discover, explore and experience workplace dynamics.

Membership Classifications

 
 

Membership in IFMA shall consist of individuals who support the purposes , vision , mission , goals , core values and Code of Ethics of the Association.

Professional Member
Professional Membership is open to facility practitioners and educators, whose primary responsibilities are to provide, oversee, or teach one (or more) Facility Management core competency. Core competencies and examples:

Communications (technology, integration, knowledge management)
Finance (with regard to real estate and facilities: analyzing, accounting, forecasting, budgeting, tax auditing and controlling)
Human and Environmental Factors (environmental, health and safety, workplace dynamics, teamwork, interpersonal behaviors, ergonomics)
Leadership & Management (code compliance, telecommunications, purchasing, security, food service, reprographics, building services, transportation, furnishings and equipment inventory, maintenance, and outsourcing management)
Operations and Maintenance (physical plant, preventative maintenance, conservation, energy management systems)
Planning and Project Management (strategic, tactical and annual facility planning; new construction and/or renovation; interior space planning and design; workplace specifications, installation and space management; architecture and/or engineering projects)
Quality Assessment and Innovation (international standards organization, standards, facility audits and total quality management)
Real Estate (acquisitions, financials, negotiations and/or disposal)
Technology (development, implementation and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) systems)

Associate Member
Associate membership is open to individuals whose primary responsibilities include: business development; sales and/or marketing as a consultant; representation of a manufacturer, vendor, dealer, distributor; and/or provider of facility-related products and services.

No more than two representatives in the Associate classification from any organization may belong to any one chapter at a time.

Student Member
Student membership is open to candidates who are engaged in full-time study at an accredited college or university. At such time as the member is no longer engaged in full-time study, he or she shall be reclassified to the appropriate membership category.

Retired Member
Retired membership is open to members in good standing upon their permanent retirement from full-time facility management practice, business development, sales, and/or marketing. Should a retired member return to full-time employment as either a practitioner or in business development, sales, and/or marketing position, he or she shall be reclassified to the appropriate membership category.

Corporate Sustaining Partner
The Corporate Sustaining Partner (CSP) Program is designed for companies providing product and service solutions to facility management professionals. The Corporate Sustaining Partner (CSP) Program allows companies to elevate their image and name recognition within the largest facility management audience, IFMA membership, while also receiving exclusive marketing and promotional benefits.

Membership Term and Limitations
Membership shall be for an annual term, renewable indefinitely, subject to reclassification, upon payment of dues. All membership terms are renewed on the anniversary of the date of the member's approved application.

Membership does not include use of Association resources, the Association's name or intellectual property, or the Association's membership directories for the direct promotion of products or services.

IFMA's Member's Choice gives you the flexibility of selecting the Premium Membership Package or tailoring your membership by selecting only the options you want to complement base and chapter membership.
