Facility Management Education and Credentialing – an International Career Framework

Session Description:

This presentation will also outline current efforts in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in defining educational needs and career path in facility management. By refining and periodically updating the core competencies that define facility management, educational institutions and professional organizations such as IFMA can provide appropriate educational offerings that keep facility mangers current with their industry. Whether the FM industry is mature or developing, the career framework and credentialing programs of IFMA can serve as the common baseline for FM education and career recognition anywhere in the world.

Speaker Profile:

Chris Hodges is a founding Principal of Facility Engineering Associates, with over 30 years of experience in building operations and facility management. He is a Registered Professional Engineer, Certified Facility Manager (International Facility Management Association), and LEED™ Accredited Professional (U.S. Green Building Council).Chris is an active member of IFMA, and has served terms as President of the Capital Chapter and member of the Board of Directors. Chris is also an IFMA Fellow, and Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He currently serves as Chair of IFMA’s Sustainability Committee and has authored numerous articles on Sustainable Facility Management and is the author of the “Getting Started” Guide on sustainability in facility management for the IFMA Foundation. Chris is also a member of IFMA’s Education Committee.Chris is a Master Instructor on the IFMA faculty; teaches IFMA core competency courses (FMP, CFM, SFP), and routinely participates in new course development, curriculum development, and has been active in promoting IFMA’s professional development and certification programs in the Unites States and internationally. Chris was the lead Subject Matter Expert for the development of IFMA’s Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP) credential.
