Session Description: | ||
This presentation will start by exploring the characteristics of a high-performance building as defined by today’s global marketplace. From there, we will explore the role of the facility manager in building and maintaining a high-performance organization. As we build, retrofit and upgrade our buildings to improve efficiency and incorporate sustainable practices, we will need to assure that we operate and maintain those high-performance systems in a manner that consistently delivers expected results. The facility manager is the key to high-performance, and is the link between the bricks and mortar and organizational strategy for managing assets. The FM has the knowledge of the political, economic, and environmental climate that exists within their organization, as well as their organizations tolerance for risk. High-performance facility management requires a careful balance of inputs such as energy, labor, materials and capital (both political and financial). Work processes such as how we maximize space, utilize technology, and lead and manage our FM workforce constitutes the processes at which we need to excel. The desired output is a safe, healthy, comfortable and productive work environment while saving energy and resources, and operating in a cost effective manner. As we improve building systems to deliver high-performance, we will need to maintain a high-performance environment in the delivery of FM services |
