Integrating Risk Management in Facility Management
By Lisa Shi, BEng, MSc, MIET, MHKIE, MSaRS, SIRM Lisa
Head of Risk Management, Associate
EC Harris (Hong Kong) Ltd
Session Description:

There is an increasing demand to drive further cost reduction while expecting better technology resilience and increased assurance on continuity of operations and business. A focused and integrated risk management plan is important for organisations with large and complex facilities portfolios. Effective integration of life-cycle risk management approach to FM outweighs the costs and allow upside and downside risks to be identified and managed effectively in a global economy. It drives consistency and supports prioritisation of CAPEX and OPEX plans, and is a mean to provide FM with compliance certainty in relation to the built assets.

The presentation will compare the benefits and common pitfalls of risk management applications, and provide the transparency necessary to identify and address the unique nature of risk found in their organizations. There is no perfect tool for risk management and a risk manager will need to customise the strategy based on sound risk management techniques, risk profiles along the supply chain and risk appetite. Two key emerging factors: risk culture and governance, as critical supporting components of risk-based decision making will be discussed.
